Big Star
American power pop band of incalculable influence, led by the singing and songwriting duo of Alex Chilton and the late Chris Bell. This Memphis-based group combined the melodic invention and beaming harmonies of the Beatles with the raw garage-guitars of the Who.
In 1993 the Posies' Jonathan Auer and Ken Stringfellow backed Chilton and drummer Jody Stephens for a reunion gig that has been followed by sporadic Big Star concerts up to the present day.
The current members of Big Star are pictured here in 1999 at First Avenue in Minneapolis.
